Victorian Energy Upgrade

Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act 2007 (the Act) and commenced on 1 January 2009. The scheme is administered in accordance with the Act, the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Regulations 2008 and the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (Project-Based Activities) Regulations 2017.

The VEET scheme is designed to make energy efficiency improvements more affordable, contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases, and encourage investment, employment and innovation in industries that supply energy efficiency goods and services.

Recent developments in lighting technology, including LEDs and CFLs, mean that the lighting in your home can be powered more efficiently.

The Victorian Government is committed to helping households and businesses reduce their bills by offering financial incentives for replacing your old lighting equipment.

All Victorian households and businesses that have old lighting technology such as incandescent globes, mercury halide, fluorescent tubelight, or halogen down-lights are eligible to participate. Product discounts are granted through the yearly greenhouse gas reduction targets that the Victorian Government has set for our energy retailers.

To meet these targets, energy retailers must buy Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates that equal the amount of greenhouse gas that has been reduced or prevented from entering our atmosphere.

One certificate equals one tonne of greenhouse gas.
